Typographic circle X Pentagram - Morag Myerscough
The brief which i chose to do for my editorial unit was downloaded from the D&AD website, in short the brief basically wanted designers to create a supplement for members of the typographic circle which was based around artists who have already gave a speech for the typo.circle . However the style in which the supplement was produced shouldn't mimic that of the chosen artists.
So before i began too start drawing up ideas i chose to do a bit of research in order to get an idea of their style and hopefully to inspire me a little.
So when i looked at Morag's work, i noticed she does a lot of multimedia/ platform work, which at the same time has either a funny or synical outlook.
However i thought she had an awesome thought process which then lead me too think what if i inserted type into a brain type of pattern/ style.
It took a while too find the right colours but i think the images work well, especially the image too the left, however the difficult part was laying out the text.
With the layout i didn't know if i wanted the image and the text to interact with one another or too isolate the images because they were quite strong colors, however, when i did isolate the images i thought that they distracted from the type, which is the main focus of the article obviously.
With the spread above i thought i would have it look like the article was encapsulated/ restricted by the brain- like image, however if i were too change the design i would make the quote a little thinner as it is quite distracting.
Overall i think the layout and images worked well , however admittedly i did use placeholder text too fill the text boxes although i don't claim to be a writer.
