End of Year evaluation

This year has been a productive one for many reasons, one example would be the way I approach briefs, I now focus heavily on research and development unlike last year also my technical skills have improved drastically and my knowledge of when to apply certain certain skills has also improved.
I have learnt many things this year such as;
. The importance of theory
. How too deal with clients and carry yourself around such clients
. That if I am struggling to come up with ideas, I haven't researched enough
. Interaction with clients can ensure you produce the work they want
. Time management is essential and will help produce better work if dealt with properly
. Time sheets and time plans will definitely help with getting payed

Overall this year i have produced more weather it's been for college work or actual live briefs and this has been a direct consequence of hard work and long hours, this had made me realise that although the graphic design spectrum is broad, it is in fact like any other trade in a sense that if you don't do the work or know your area/expertise you won't have a job or be successful.

Heather Smith - Final Products

Here is the final products for Heather, sorry for the lack of production and posts, i've been rather busy. As you can see i tried to apply the logo to different platforms and touch points, so that when it comes to Heather's final show, she will look like a professional and like a strong + well thought out designer.

Walbottle Wizards

This brief came in through my brother who is a basketball coach at Walbottle High school, he wanted me to do the branding for his team.
He specified that :
. He wanted the logo to look professional
. He wanted it to be simple so it wouldn't need to be updated as quickly
. The branding needed to attract more kids to participate

I went on too think about how the branding could be applied :
. Posters
. Training tops
. Beanie hat
. Drill booklet

I went on to research into current logo's that are in use.

This was my response to the brief.

My Branding / C.V./ Business cards

Although this will continuously change throughout my career, the concept was too try and replicate who I am in my work as corny as it sounds. The idea within my work as you can see below (Since i'm from Newcastle and I have a rather thick accent ) I applied a bit of Geordie slang "Alreet" in there too remove the formality, as i wouldn't want to work in that way with my clients and again to emphasise being from Newcastle I had to implement a black and white pattern.

I was quite happy with the way the designs came out in print and how the information is simple, especially in the cv, it isn't too long and boring but does get across the important information.

Mr.Hydroponic - Final looks

This is the final look of the leaflets, business cards and letter head. As you can see I used they opted for the flower indent based logo and I also produced a map on the back of the leaflet which was a personal first. Although it may not be the most creative looking, the client was satisfied and I got paid.

Typographic Circle - Re do

As a follow up to my "inspiration" post i thought i would re-do my typographic circle/pentagram brief, mainly because i looked back at the deliverables and i wasn't pleased with the out-come however, this time i had more knowledge of theory (editorial).

The concept was too use arrows to control pace and direct attention.

Mr.Hydroponic - Logo designs

Since I was trying to produce a clean and clinical logo (too remove the stigmata mentioned last post), here are three logo's I put forward to Anthony Lake
As you can see I was very keen on the idea of producing an ident which could be used and replicated across many touch points at later dates also I want more siding with the use of bold sans serifed writing as it adds a sense of simplicity and doesn't imply any conceptions.
